In 1990, Fr. Luke Zimmer, SS. CC. was asked by Cardinal Roger Mahony to start a confraternity for Catholic priests based on the particular charism and spirituality of The Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Mary and Joseph: that he had received through prayer during his forty years of priesthood. However, it was not until November 1996, just two months before Fr. Luke's death, that The Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Mary and Joseph was finally established. The endeavor was led by Fr. Michael Sears, a priest in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Today, the confraternity is an enthusiastic group of priests who have incorporated this way of life into their priestly ministry.
